What people are saying
Frequently asked questions
What is Private Hire insurance?
Private hire insurance is a type of taxi insurance for drivers who only take pre-booked journeys (e.g., through Uber, Bolt, or a minicab office). It is different from public hire insurance, which covers black cabs or hackney carriages that can be hailed on the street.
Does private hire insurance cover Uber and Bolt drivers?
Yes. Private hire insurance arranged by us is designed for pre-booked work and can include cover for drivers working with platforms such as Uber and Bolt.
Does Private Hire insurance cover food and parcel delivery?
Food and parcel delivery cover is included as standard with every policy arranged by Flag Insurance (Brokers) at no extra cost. With some providers, you may need to add this cover separately, but with us it’s included from day one.
Does Private Hire insurance cover me for personal use?
Yes, all taxi policies we arrange include Social, Domestic and Pleasure use as standard, so you can use your vehicle for both personal and work-related journeys under one policy.
What does PCO insurance mean?
“PCO insurance” is a term commonly used in London. The name comes from the former Public Carriage Office (PCO), who were responsible for licensing private hire drivers and is now part of Transport for London (TfL). In practice, PCO insurance and private hire insurance are the same thing – cover that allows you to legally carry paying passengers.
